Who is Paul Tudor Jones?

Paul Tudor Jones is the second one in his family. He was born on the 28th September 1954 in Memphis, which is a city in Tennessee. He is a popular commodity trader who many people look up to. His biggest success was in the year of 2006, when he was declared to be worth $3.3 billion after he made an astonishing $750 million in that year. What was another great achievement for Paul Tudor Jones was when he was declared as the 369th richest man in the world in March 2007 by Forbes Magazine. After that information was published people respected him more, as they realized that he was a man who meant serious business.

Paul Tudor Jones, trading expert, attended the Memphis University School when he was younger, and then he went on to the University of Virginia where he earned for himself an undergraduate degree in the subject he loved, economics. He did well at school and was a popular kid. What he also earned that was a bit different to his degree was a Welterweight Boxing Championship in 1976. He liked a lot of different things, so unlike many people he followed what he liked and instead of sticking to one activity, Paul went all out and did what he enjoyed most.

In 1976 Paul worked as none other than a clerk on the trader floors, where he later moved up and became the broker for a company called E.F. Hutton. After four years of this job he decided that he no longer wanted to do that so he went off on his own and stayed that way for nearly three years. That turned out to be rather profitable, but then he “got bored”. When he didn’t know what to do next Paul Tudor Jones, trading expert, sent an application to Harvard Business School, to which he was no doubt accepted. He packed his things and was going to be on his way, until he realized that going to this school wasn’t really what he wanted to do. He didn’t think that he would be taught what he really wanted to learn.

When Paul was in the dark with his career and didn’t know what to do next he asked his cousin, William Dunavant Jr. to advise him. His cousin is a very successful man himself as he owns Dunavant Enterprises, and they are in the top numbers when it comes to big cotton merchants in the world. Once William had thought about what he could do to help his cousin, he sent Paul to talk with a commodity broker he knew, Eli Tullis, down in New Orleans. Eli hired Paul to see what he could do and turned out to be rather impressed with the man’s work. He therefore taught him what he knew and sent him to work with cotton futures at the well known New York Cotton Exchange.

Paul Tudor Jones went on to be a very successful man and he is now very well known too. People admire him and what he does, and they hope to one day be able to learn from him.
